One plane that stuck in my mind was the F-14 Tomcat—its iconic swing-wing design allowed it to flex or tuck its wings, completely changing how it flew. \n\nAmong my cutouts, there was a photo of an F-14 parked on the ground with all its missiles and payload laid out beneath it. Now *that* was the ultimate \"flex\"—a display of raw firepower. (Ironically, ground display jets usually keep their wings tucked in to save space, so it was flexing its power by *not* flexing its wings! 😅)\n\nThat brings me to today’s topic. I was initially planning to draw another warplane, but this morning, my neighbor brought home a bundle of peacock feathers to prepare for Diwali 🎇. That sparked my curiosity, and I ended up down a rabbit hole researching why peacock feathers are linked to the Festival of Lights. (I’ll leave the deep dive for you to ask your local AI 😉).\n\nConnecting the dots between military flexes and natural reflexes, I decided to FLEX my drawing skills on the final day of #inktober2026 by drawing a peacock instead. Peacocks flex their feathers for two main reasons: to attract mates, and to intimidate threats using those mesmerizing \"eye\" patterns. \n\n\nI started with a simple penguin-like body shape to budget the layout and see how much space the feathers would need.\n\n\nSince the feathers are the main attraction, I didn't spend too much time on the body. I loosely penciled a seashell shape around the outline.\n\n\nNext, I added a fan grid inside the seashell outline to plan the placement of the \"eyes.\"\n\n\nReal peacocks have a much denser pattern of eyes, but I decided to go with a simplified grid that fit my imagination.\n\n\nOnce all the eyes were mapped out, I filled in the feather textures and rendered the main body.\n\n\nFinally, I added Hier ohne weitere Umschweife eine Auswahl, was mir alles in den letzten Wochen vor die Linse gekommen ist! Die Bestimmungen sind ohne Gewähr, aber bei den meisten bin ich mir relativ sicher.\n\nEin junger Parasol oder auch [Gemeiner Riesenschirmling](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemeiner_Riesenschirmling), einer der häufigsten Pilze bei uns.\n\n\nNur noch häufiger ist der [Honiggelbe Hallimasch](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honiggelber_Hallimasch), leider, denn er befällt gerne noch lebende Bäume und bringt sie innerhalb weniger Jahre zum Absterben. Hier Befall an einer (noch) gesunden Buche. \n\nEr ist, zusammen mit dem Gemeinen Hallimasch (der dunkler ist, aber ansonsten ähnlich) der schlimmste Forstschädling in Mitteleuropa, da er nicht wählerisch bei der Auswahl seiner Opfer ist und noch dazu unterirdisch lange, schnürsenkelartige Hyphenstränge (Rhizomorphe) ausbilden kann, um geeignetes Substrat zu finden.\n\n\nWeit seltener ist der [Netzstielige Hexenröhrling](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netzstieliger_Hexen-R%C3%B6hrling). Trotz seines Namens ist er eßbar, wenn man ihn gut erhitzt!\n\nCharakteristisch ist das dunkle, netzartige Adergeflecht am Stiel.\n\n\nEin junger [Birken-Milchling](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birken-Milchling). Wie schon der Name verrät, kommt er nur unter Birken vor. Roh ist er giftig.\n\n\nEin [Falscher Pfifferling](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falscher_Pfifferling)?\n\n\nDer [Eichen-Wirrling](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eichen-Wirrling) ist von oben recht unspektakulär und wächst wie viele andere baumbewachsenende Pilze...\n\n\n... aber von unten betrachtet wird klar, warum er diesen Namen hat. Die Porenschicht ist gegen das Zentrum hin lamellig bis labyrinthartig bzw. einfach wirr.\n\n\nEin [Hasentintling](https://123pilzsuche.de/daten/details/Hasentintling.htm) (\"Hasenpfote\")?\n\n\nEine nette Ansammlung von Fruchtkörpern des [Flachen Lackporlings](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flacher_Lackporling), der gerade sporuliert hat, wie man am kakaobraunen Sporenpulver erkennen kann, das die Rinde dieser Eiche verfärbt hat.\n\n\nWenn man einen Blick auch für Kleineres hat, kann man so hübsche Dinge wie diese [Trompeten-Becherflechte](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cladonia_fimbriata) finden. Mehr über Flechten [hier](https://peakd.com/hive-196387/@stayoutoftherz/faszination-flechten-lichens).\n\n\nApropos klein, das ist vermutlich ein [Käsepilzchen](https://123pilzsuche.de/daten/details/Kaesepilzchen.htm) oder ein [Halsband-Schwindling](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halsband-Schwindling).\n\n\n\nEin junger [Fliegenpilz](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fliegenpilz).\n\n\nEin (vermutlich) [Erlen-Grübling](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erlen-Gr%C3%BCbling), der in D. wegen Seltenheit geschützt ist. Die dunklen Flecken stammen vermutlich von Regentropfen.\n\n...bei Berührung färbt sich das Röhrenpolster auf der Hutunterseite blau.\n\nNoch ein [Waben-Stielporling](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waben-Stielporling). Den hatte ich im letzten Pilzpost schon erwähnt, aber ich mag seine Unterseite einfach!\n\n\nEin [Großer Bluthelmling](https://123pilzsuche.de/daten/details/GrosserBluthelmling.htm)? Er ist an sich eher gesellig, dieser hier war aber ganz alleine.\n\n\nEin [Tränender Saumpilz](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tr%C3%A4nender_Saumpilz)(?). Er soll häufig sein, ist mir aber nicht oft begegnet.\n\n\n\n\nDer [Ästige Stachelbart](https://123pilzsuche.de/daten/details/StachelbartEssbar1004.htm) mit seiner sehr ungewöhnlichen Form ist bei uns ziemlich selten und in D. und der Schweiz auf der Roten Liste.\n\n\nDetail.\n\nEr gilt (wie auch der Igel-Stachelpilz) als Heilpilz mit immunsystemstärkenden Eigenschaften.\n\nDieser [Waldmistkäfer](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waldmistk%C3%A4fer) stochert gerade in den Resten eines Baumpilzes (eventuell eines Seitlings). Waldmistkäfer ernähren sich auch von Pilzen, wie bei ihrem etwas größeren Verwandten, dem Gemeinen Mistkäfer, ist die Hauptnahrungsquelle aber Dung. Interessanterweise können diese Insekten Laute von sich geben (stridulieren) wie Grillen.\n\n\nDer [Buchen-Schleimrübling](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buchen-Schleimr%C3%BCbling) ist am schleimigen, durchscheinenden Hut leicht zu erkennen.\n\nMan kann ihn essen, wichtiger als Speisepilz ist er allerdings, weil aus ihm das Antimykotikum [Strobilurin A](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strobilurine) hergestellt werden kann.\n\n\nAnderes Exemplar.\n\n\nEin [Kastanienbrauner Stielporling](https://123pilzsuche.de/daten/details/KAstanienbrPorl.htm). Fein geschnitten und getrocknet, kann man aus jungen Exemplaren angeblich ein guten Würzpulver machen. Ander Autoren halten ihn aber für ungenießbar.\n\n\nEin [Pinselschüppling](https://123pilzsuche.de/daten/details/Pinselschueppling.htm)?\n\n\n\nEr kann leicht verwechselt werden mit dem [Goldfell-Schüppling](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldfell-Sch%C3%BCppling)\n\n\nDer [Grünblättrige Schwefelkopf](https://123pilzsuche.de/daten/details/GruenblaettrigerSchwefelkopf.htm) ist giftig!\n\nÄlteres Exemplar.\n\n\nEin [Zaun-Blättling](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaun-Bl%C3%A4ttling). Im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Pilzen scheut er nicht, auch sonnen- und windexponiertes und daher stark ausgetrocknetes Holz anzugreifen. Er ist daher ein Holzschädling, der auch verbautes Holz wie das von Zaunlatten befällt (daher der Name).\n\n\n\nUnd noch ein Nachtrag zu den [Baumpilzen](https://peakd.com/hive-121566/@stayoutoftherz/baumpilze): Der [Rotrandige Baumschwamm](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotrandiger_Baumschwamm), der gerne Kiefern und Fichten befällt, daher auch der Name Fichtenporling.\n\n\nDer [Eichen-Leberreischling](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eichen-Leberreischling) ist mit seinen großen, rötlichen Fruchtkörpern sehr auffällig und fast nur an Eichen anzutreffen.\n\nIm englischen wird er auch *beefsteak mushroom* genannt, bei uns auch Ochsenzunge. Man kann junge Exemplare zwar essen, der Geschmack wird aber als säuerlich beschrieben. Offenbar wurde er früher gegessen als \"poor men’s beefsteak\". Wenigtens besteht keine Verwechsungsgefahr mit einem Giftpilz.\n\n\nBei diesem Pilz habe ich nicht den leisesten Schimmer, was es sein könnte, hat jemand eine Idee?\n\n\nSo viele [Zunderschwämme](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zunderschwamm) an einem Baumstamm! Tatsächlich ist aber nur ein Organismus mit mehreren, mehrjährigen Fruchtkörpern.\n\n\nDie [Gelbe Lohblüte](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gelbe_Lohbl%C3%BCte) (oder \"Hexenbutter\") ist kein Pilz, sondern ein [Schleimpilz](https://peakd.com/hive-121566/@stayoutoftherz/wunderbare-welt-der-schleimpilze)\n\n\nWenn es regnet, bekommt man auch Feuersalamander zu sehen. Ein Wunder, dass sie diesen trockenen Sommer überstanden haben. Die Natur ist widerstandsfähiger, als man glaubt!\n\n\nHier noch ein frischer [Lungenseitling](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lungen-Seitling), oder Austern-Seitling, die beiden sind ziemlich ähnlich.\n\nDetail der Hutunterseite.\n\n\nSo, das war es auch schon wieder. The number of coins flooding the market is not necessarily something that is planned for and the recovery time is the unknown.\n\nThe other factor to consider is those playing around with longs and shorts with a token like FUN dropping by 50-90% due to the high liquidity being sold. This is not something that may have happened and you would consider those traders being liquidated unlucky.\n\nI know Binance said they would be making those crypto tokens sold whole again as in buying back what was hacked restocking the Binance hot wallets. That does not make those investors who lost whole again and that kind of sucks.\n\nCOTI was one of the cryptos that were unlucky enough to be caught in this mess with 69 million COTI being dumped in 7 transactions. The saving grace compared to other hacks is Binance has the funds to cover these losses and $3 billion of stablecoins was frozen so the entire $6.3 billion was not lost. This alone being able to cover this hack allows Binance to keep face and why regulators like the SEC made it a must have for exchanges to have funds covering for these types of outcomes.\n\nThis may actually be a blessing in disguise for Binance proving they can cover for such massive losses and maybe MiCA the EU regulator would look favorably on this. So while [last year](https://peakd.com/hive-180164/@gabrielatravels/october-recap-my-best-reading-month-yet) my October Recap looked so much different from what I came in with, this month turned into a complete mess.\n\nThis was actually supposed to be another month with at least 5 reads, as I did in my [previous monthly recap](https://peakd.com/hive-180164/@gabrielatravels/september-reading-recap-love-hurts-vampires-bite-and-debbie-has-had-enough) because I had a very clear list in my head of books I wanted to read, and I expected to be full of action, making me easily turn one page after another while completely forgetting about the passage of time. But sadly, that was not the case, and you'll soon find out more in the 2nd review of today's post.\n\n### 1. **His & Hers** \n by *Alice Feeney*\n★★★★★ \n\n\n\nGenerated with ChatGPT since I've read it on my Kindle and I don't own the real book\n\nUntil the last 5% of the book, I said I'd rate this book with 4 stars just because I figured out the plot twist quite early and it kept being obvious until the end, but I couldn't be more wrong about it.\n\nIt was actually my first time reading something from Alice Feeney after hearing many times that her writing is very similar to what Freida McFadden and John Marrs usually write, namely, criminal thrillers where it is almost impossible to guess the plot twist. \n\nSo, despite being a huge fan of the other two authors, I also started this book with high hopes and big expectations, but everything seemed like it was following a predictable course, except there was this mysterious POV of the criminal that seemed like it could be anyone. Happily, the double plot twist I got to experience in the last 30 pages showed how easily one can play with someone else's mind, despite being a book that mainly focuses on the art of lying and how everyone has their own dark secrets. \n\nThere were still a couple of disturbing details that I can't entirely understand the purpose (I won't name them to avoid revealing spoilers), but they didn't feel a good reason to rate this book other than with 5 stars. And I can't wait to read even more from Alice Feeney.\n\n*I also rated this on: [Goodreads](https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/8934244186)*\n\n### 2. **The Cinnamon Bun Book Store (Dream Harbor, #2)** \n by *Laurie Gilmore*\n★★☆☆☆ \n\n\n\nThe problem with this kind of books is that once you finish reading 2 or 3 of them, everything seems quite repetitive. **I'm @rjsohan From Bangladesh 🇧🇩** \n\n\n\nHello friends, Today’s post I’m writing about a water monster that has no attack of its own yet can play a crucial role in battle when used correctly. It is a common monster from the rebellion edition and costs only 2 mana to include in your team. This makes it a great addition to low mana battles allowing you to fit it in alongside other powerful monsters.\n\n\n\n\nIts first ability is magic reflect. When hit by an enemy’s magic attack this ability deals magic damage back to the attacker. Consequently it proves highly effective against teams that rely on magic attacks turning the enemy's own offense against them even though the card itself lacks an attack stat.\n\nAt level 5 it gains the slow ability which reduces the speed of all monsters on the enemy team by 1. This increases the chances for your own monsters to strike first. At its maximum level it gains the stun ability which has the potential to prevent an enemy from taking an action on their next turn. However even with stun it still cannot attack on its own unless it gains an attack stat through another ability.\n\nA unique way to utilize this card is to place it next to a monster that possesses the weapon training ability. By receiving an attack stat from such a monster it becomes capable of attacking in battle. Thus while it begins as a support unit it can become even more effective when integrated into the right team composition.\n\nIn my view the greatest advantage of this card is its ability to counter enemy magic attacks and reduce enemy speed all for a very low mana cost. That said because it lacks an inherent attack it won't be equally effective in every battle it is best used by carefully considering the opponent's team and the specific battle ruleset.\n\n\n\n\nOverall **Daigendark Surveyor** is a support monster that under the right circumstances can significantly strengthen your team's overall strategy.\n\nI’ll wrap up today’s post here. Especially in areas with quite a few trees. One thing I really noticed though was that the colours really pull out that Soviet aesthetic on within the concrete jungle side of things. I figured I'd have some fun testing that out. Starting with a fun Soviet era monument in a park nearby. And following up with some large panelka high rise buildings from the Soviet 70s. There's something to these buildings which has a bit of charm to me, I find them aesthetically pleasing despite how others tend to view the Soviet aesthetic as a bit more depressive.\n\n\n\n\n\nI think some of it comes from my love for the cyberpunk genre growing up, fascinated in the unique architecture the genre would bring in film and television, even games. The style of buildings which tower around all else and have that design that feels like it really has something to say. There's an atmosphere within such areas that feels old, but otherworldly. Where time and decay, much like within the cyberpunk genre, have reclaimed some of the surroundings with overgrowth despite the strong concrete tones and structures sitting around. Courtyards feel much that way too, where signs of the previous world remain in the form of old bins, park benches and playgrounds. Sometimes even paintings of old Soviet cartoon characters. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe density of these high rises can sometimes be a bit much. You often wonder how people get any sunlight at all in the lower apartments. Sometimes I walk through these areas and question it, seeing how dark they are even in the daytime. I often wonder how people live in them with that lack of light, how low their energy must be to be surrounded by shadow at all times, how the chaos of the city life right outside the windows can influence their comfort; did they get their apartments during the Soviet Union and just generationally cling to them? Did they buy these places and just don't really care? In some instances you see how people have illegally added extra rooms to these lower floors. Though here you can't really see that, which I suppose is a good thing after all given the sheer danger of such illegal structures.\n\n\n\n\n\nI saved this last one because I think it's my favourite. The shape of this panelka is really different to the typical one. I think it's a little older than the 70s ones, these tend to be much wider buildings. You can see how people have covered up their balconies over the years, where the original ones remain open. The design of shapes is really interesting, where the building was basically placed together like a game of Tetris that got a bit out of hand. I plan to photograph architecture a bit more in the future with the wider lenses I now have. Though I shot these with the Sony A6000 on the 35mm lens, which equates to about a 50mm on full frame. If I'm not mistaken, they are around five months old and have recently been separated from their mother.\nActually, these kittens belong to my neighbor, but they are the offspring of my own cat (Mexi). The two kittens have different coat colors. The white one takes after its mother, while the tabby one takes after its father, Mexi.\n\nAlthough these kittens belong to my neighbor, they often come to my house to play. They are so adorable that I don't mind them coming over at all.\n\n\n\n\n\nMy neighbor has also built a house for them. It is quite spacious, and it used to be the house of their dog, which sadly died after being hit by a car.\nI usually play with these kittens in the morning, and sometimes I'm even the one who wakes them up, lol.\n\nMeanwhile, Mexi is now very busy with his own world. He keeps wandering around to expand his territory and look for female cats to mate with.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe most adorable part is the way these two kittens sleep. They have a rather unique way of sleeping, cuddling up together in an overlapping position, as if they don't want to be apart from each other.\nTheir eyes still look sleepy because they have just woken up. However, just five minutes after I took these photos, they immediately went outside and started playing happily together.\n\nBoth of these kittens have successfully recovered from several illnesses, and at just five months old, they have managed to grow up quite healthy.I hope these kittens will get vaccinated soon so that their immune systems can become stronger and better equipped to fight off viruses that cause dangerous diseases.\n\n\n\nOh, there's also a stray cat that often visits my house, especially in the afternoon. I don't know who its owner is, and its condition is quite concerning.\n\n\n\n\n\nJudging by its physical condition, this cat seems to be quite healthy, and it even looks a little chubby. However, I immediately felt sorry for it when I discovered that its right eye had a severe case of cataracts, which had left it unable to see through that eye.\nAlthough this is a stray cat, I still give it food whenever it visits. Interestingly, this cat only comes to my house in the afternoon, and after I feed it, it immediately leaves again.\n\n\n\nThis black cat also belongs to my neighbor, but it is a very naughty and extremely wild cat.\n\nIt is very difficult to catch, making it almost impossible to play with. 🥇 Into the Aberdare Mountains, Kenya by @dtam
After a leisurely morning at Acacia Camp and a delicious breakfast of sausages and omlettes, we loaded back into our vehicle for a morning drive North to our next destination in the Aberdare Mountains. This route takes us through the capital city of Nairobi, and all of its infamous traffic. But with James at the helm we knew we were in good hands. That wasn't taking into account some of the other drivers as we got into my first accident ever in Kenya.

🥈 My First Week in Ha Giang, Vietnam - A Different Kind of Travel Experience by @kedi
During my first week in Ha Giang, I usually spent around 4–5 hours a day working on the hostel's website, depending on what needed to be done.\n\nWhat I really liked about this arrangement was the flexibility. I could use my professional skills to help the hostel while still having plenty of time to explore the area.\n\nMost afternoons, after finishing my work, I would grab my helmet, jump on the motorbike that the hostel had kindly lent me, and head out to discover somewhere new.

Continuing on our route to Alto El Paramito, the concrete road turned into sand and loose gravel, which struck me as a bad sign since it made the adventure more dangerous, considering we were riding a low-displacement motorcycle. So, we just had to pray that at least it wouldn’t rain and make things difficult for us—we were almost there, which was pretty good.
